Over 22 million people tuned in to watch the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. On a national stage, the Pride of the Dakotas did what they do best: they made South Dakota State University proud. While that milestone performance was nothing short of historic, we have the generosity of the entire yellow and blue community to thank for such a tremendous opportunity.

The Macy’s Parade was a remarkable experience for our Jackrabbits, and it’s a testament to the potential of the Pride, on landmark days and every day in between. Delivering a premier and enthusiastic performance is simply a day in the life for the members of the group, and the Pride needs our support every day.

Your gift can fuel further opportunities for the band year-round. By building the excellence fund, we build chances for the group to shine in countless appearances and events.

The Pride received this heartfelt note from one family, with no connection whatsoever to SDSU, who were inspired by the band’s stellar performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

To the SDSU Marching Band,

My family had a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We were on the parade route by 5:30am to be sure to get a front row seat. Little did we know that our front row seat would allow us the opportunity to see your fabulous band! As you know, the parade has to make several short stops along the route. We were lucky enough to have one of your stops occur directly in front of us.

You were by far one of the highlights of the parade! The energy of the band was amazing! Loved the music, the "dancing" and the chants. Everyone sitting around us was talking about you. The gentleman standing behind me said, "Who knew a band from South Dakota would be the ones to get the crowd going?"

I know it's an honor to be chosen for this parade – just thought you should know it was an honor for us to watch and hear you!

All the best!

The Kinsey Family

Gainesville, Florida

This note speaks volumes for the impact of the Pride: the world is always watching, what the Pride does makes a difference, and by supporting this standout band, we truly show the world what SDSU can do.

Thank you for supporting the Pride of the Dakotas!

We are ready for tomorrow and can't wait to represent South Dakota!

Thank you to all who have supported our project and helped get our Jackrabbits to NYC! This has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of our students, and it’s been so rewarding to watch them take in the glitz and glamor of the Big Apple. None of this would have been possible without you!

Make sure to tune in all week to the Pride’s social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and on Twitter. Follow along as the Pride explores, performs, and represents South Dakota on a national stage! Stay up-to-date with their hashtags – #Thepride2Macys and #Pride132 – to see the irreplaceable memories they are making, as well as sharing your own. Finally, remember to tune in to the parade on Thursday, November 24, 2022, running from 9:00am-12:00pm ET on Peacock, as well as and on the NBC app, to watch the Pride make history for our university.

And the Beat Goes On!

WOW! Our Jackrabbit Community continues to amaze us! With your support, the $60,000 goal has nearly been met, and we're excited to help The Pride even more on their journey to NYC by extending our goal to $75,000. In additional, approximately $38,000 is still available for matching gifts, thanks to The South Dakota Department of Tourism!

We also wanted to share that South Dakota Public Broadcasting will air a special documentary featuring The Pride of the Dakotas this Thursday, November 17, at 8 PM. The documentary was created by Sioux Falls filmmaker Brad Dumke, utilizing the research that Dr. Kevin Kessler did in his dissertation, “The History of Bands at South Dakota State University," while earning his doctorate. 3. On Thursday, November 24, the Pride will be 1 of 9 bands in the parade! Keep a lookout for any Jackrabbit spottings! 👀🐇
  4. On Friday, November 25, everyone will return, tired, but proud, representing SDSU and South Dakota in the best possible way! #gojacks 💙💛
