Gifts to History + Science = Ag Museum Exhibits contribute to...
The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is the state's official repository for preserving agricultural history in South Dakota.
Since less than 2% of the population are farmers, we have the opportunity to educate the other 98% on the importance of agriculture in a more accessible way. At the Agricultural Heritage Museum, we showcase agriculture, past and present, and the science behind it in our exhibits and programming.
For example, we developed the Digging Deep: Secrets of Soil exhibit that incorporated historic and current SDSU soil research data with basic soil health and management information. It included interactive kiosks to make the soil information more interesting. It was like a hands-on science center with history. This combination sets apart from other agricultural museums or centers that only focus on one or the other. Our goal is to continue developing exhibitions that engage, entertain, and educate.
