About

Lyle and Garnet Perman Challenge

What’s one thing that unites campus, community, and over a century of Jackrabbits? Say it loud: HOBO DAY!

Lyle Perman, a 1977 agriculture grad, and his wife, Garnet, a 1976 biology alum, both served on the Hobo Day Committee as students. The Permans are Hobos for life; Lyle and Garnet were named Hobo Day Royalty in 2008 as Weary Wil and Dirty Lil. When our first 20 donors give to Hobo Day, the Permans will give $2,500.

Today, your gift can help keep this treasured tradition going!

Gordon Niva and Susan Lahr Hobo Day Challenge

Gordon Niva (’73) and Susan Lahr (’75) both attended Frederick High School in Brown County, SD, but the two didn’t start dating until they both attended SDSU. A fun fact: Gordon was once a Hobo Day Committee member and has the distinct honor of having served as Weary Wil. Gordon and Susan have generously agreed to give $5,000 for the next 40 donors reached.

Your gift will go further in preserving the rich traditions of Hobo Day!

Van and Barbara Fishback Challenge

Van and Barbara Fishback are honoring Barb’s alma mater by supporting one of SDSU’s favorite traditions. With just 15 more donors, the Fishbacks will give an additional $2,000 to boost support for Hobo Day.

No matter your favorite Hobo Day tradition, we can support it when we work together!

Roger L. Rix Challenge

Can we rally 15 more donors?! Once we do, Roger Rix will give $2,000. Every gift makes a difference, including yours!

Bob and Lisa Springer Challenge

Let’s keep our momentum going, Jackrabbits!

Bob Springer, a 1973 grad, and his wife, Lisa, will donate $2,500 when we reach just 20 more donors. This is our chance to support all that we love about Hobo Day!

Merl and Maxine Hackbart Challenge

We are so close to rounding out our Hobo Day challenges, Jackrabbits! And who better to help us make it happen than a former Grand Pooba?! Merl Hackbart, the 1962 Grand Pooba, along with his wife, Maxine, is giving us a bold challenge to rally 15 more donors. When we do, the Hackbarts will give $2,500! Let’s use this chance to celebrate one of the best days of the year to be a Jackrabbit!

That’s $16,500 for Hobo Day unlocked by 125 donors! Imagine the impact on our future celebrations!

Thanks to Gordon Niva and Susan Lahr for providing $5K in challenge funds. We can cross that one off the list because we have reached over 60 Hobo Day donors. Let's work together to unlock our next challenge at 75 donors!
