About

Al and Jan Peterson Challenge

Al (’63, ’65) and Jan (’64) Peterson participated in the South Dakota State Marching Band when it became name, “The Pride,” and the couple fondly recall taking trips to perform at Minnesota Vikings games. The Petersons are motivated to give to One Day for STATE so that others can benefit from the SDSU experience as they did. When we rally our first 40 donors, a challenge from Al and Jan will unlock $5,000 to help get the Pride to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Dr. Ben and Tricia Solomon Family Challenge

Dr. Benjamin Solomon has strong ties to SDSU after being involved with countless areas of campus during his undergraduate years: a fraternity, the Hobo Day Committee, and his reason for donating today…the Pride of the Dakotas, where he met his wife, Tricia! Dr. Solomon and Tricia, have committed $2,500 to the Pride when we reach 25 additional donors. Each student’s cost to get to New York City and the Macy’s Parade is $2,500… help us get the entire band to New York!

Together, we can unlock the Solomons’ generous gift and ensure the music keeps playing!

Anonymous Donor Challenge for the Pride

An anonymous donor is stepping forward to make sure progress marches on for the Pride of the Dakotas. When we rally 40 more donors, we’ll unlock $5,000. While the donor is anonymous, it’s no mystery that the cost for each student to join the Pride in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is $2,500.  Help us get the entire band to New York!

Here we go!

Duane & Barb Harms Challenge

Named the SDSU Foundation’s 2017 Philanthropic Family of the Year, Duane (’69) and Barb Harms have been loyal supporters of the Jackrabbit community for decades. Now, the couple is ready to support the Pride of the Dakotas when it’s needed most. Duane and Barb even traveled with the Pride when they were in the Rose Parade. This year, they are helping get the band to New York for their appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. When we rally the next 55 donors, the Harms’ gift of $10,000 will be unlocked.

Let’s pave the way for the Pride to march in their most historic performance yet!

Dr. Peggy Gordon Miller Challenge

President Emerita Dr. Peggy Gordon Miller is no stranger to leading SDSU. From visionary dedication to transformational philanthropy, she’s demonstrated an unfailing knack for making a difference at State – and today, she’s looking to enhance opportunity for the Pride of the Dakotas. With just 60 more donors, we’ll unlock $25,000 from Dr. Gordon Miller. Let’s ensure no member of the Pride is left behind on their trip of a lifetime when they represent South Dakota State University in front of 50 million television viewers on Thanksgiving!

With Dr. Gordon Miller’s generosity and your gifts, we can load every bus before they fly to New York City!

Friends of the Pride Challenge

It’s a long march from South Dakota to Times Square…and these friends of the Pride are determined to help the group get there! When we reach the next 30 donors, we’ll unlock an additional $3,000.

Special thanks to Vern (’70) and Jan (’70) Anderson, two Jackrabbit alums who first met at State and have consistently supported the university ever since, and Dr. David Reynolds, Director of the School of Performing Arts, and his wife, Rina, Sr. Director of Major Gifts at the SDSU Foundation.

The generosity of these friends of the Pride is truly inspirational – we can give our students a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

That’s $50,500 unlocked by 250 donors for the Pride of the Dakotas! Let’s end the day on a high note!

Thanks to Dr. Ben and Tricia Solomon for providing $2.5K in challenge funds. We can cross that one off the list because we have reached over 65 Pride donors. Let's work together to unlock our next challenge at 105 donors!
