About the SDSU Cheerleading Team

The 2023-2024 SDSU Cheerleading Nationals Team is made up of 25 athletes.

We dedicate 15-20 hours each week to maintain our roles on the team, including exercising in the weight room three times per week, completing two-hour practices at least twice a week, and cheering on the Jacks at football and basketball games, in addition to other team appearances. We also train rigorously for our national competition in Orlando, Florida, competing against other D1A schools in the game day division. We devote countless hours to athletics and the team overall to represent South Dakota State University at the national level.

Why we are fundraising

SDSU Cheerleading is an unsponsored athletic team. Every year, we fundraise nonstop for the season, and, this year in particular, we are raising funds for our trip to nationals in Orlando, Florida in January 2024. To continue representing South Dakota State at a national level, we must fundraise for the many expenses to travel and perform. This includes costs for anything from airfare, hotels, transportation, props, uniforms, team shirts, choreography, and more.

An opportunity like this brings great personal and professional rewards to our team, but it comes at a steep cost. Despite the necessary fundraising, this experience is well worth our hard work. It’s the highlight of our season, as we are recognized among top D1 colleges and strive to reach this top-tier competition. Competing at nationals brings new talent to our team, as many high school cheerleaders enjoy the competition aspect of our sport, and appearances like this boost our recruitment. It also sets us apart as a competitive sports team, putting SDSU on the map as a respected and premier organization.

Each athlete must raise $2,300 to compete on our nationals’ team. This is an added pressure, as we balance our time and energy between academics and cheerleading. Our goal is to ease the financial burden of competing, helping us to succeed in the classroom and in the competition.

The SDSU Cheer Team is forever grateful for the support of the yellow and blue community. Without your generosity, we would not be able to do what we love, cheer for the Jackrabbits, and represent South Dakota State University to the best of our ability. Go Jacks!
