About Us

The tradition of music at SDSU dates back just as long as the university itself, with the first choral society forming at State in 1881. For over 140 years, SDSU has trained and retained gifted vocalists, offering standout musical talent the chance to refine their craft and forge lifelong memories through unforgettable experiences.

Today, SDSU’s concert choir thrives under the direction of Dr. Laura Diddle, who specializes in leading young voices in developing choral art and performance techniques. The group is known for maintaining a diverse and moving repertoire, spanning everything from classical masterworks to modern and beloved musical hits. The concert choir has built a reputation for artistic excellence and vibrant performances, earning prestige as they perform around the globe. Locally, the group make up an integral part of university events, including traditions like the biennial Christmas Madrigal Feast and annual Yuletide concerts. No matter the stage, venue, or song, the concert choir delivers a signature sound that speaks to the strong and robust vocal program honed at SDSU.

Where We're Headed

In December 2023, up to 60 members of the concert choir will embark on a nine-day trip to Sweden and Norway for a once-in-a-lifetime journey of performances and sight-seeing.

While the trip is an incredible opportunity for cultural and musical immersion, an adventure of this magnitude comes with a price, and the cost for each choir member to attend is about $4,500 per student. Private donors will absorb $3,000 of the price per musician, but we need your help to bridge the gap and make this dream a reality for our Jackrabbit concert choir students.

Membership in this dynamic and premier group hinges upon excellence in musicianship, vocal artistry, and a tremendous amount of dedication. Each of the members pursuing the trip to Sweden and Norway have invested countless hours of practice and performance to earn their place in the concert choir, and, together, this ensemble has built SDSU’s reputation for remarkable choral talent.

Your gift can ensure that no member of the concert choir misses out on this landmark experience due to financial reasons. With our generosity, the show will go on for this beloved musical tradition at SDSU.
