If you could prevent a Jackrabbit from leaving school, would you?

Your car’s broken down. Your fridge is low on groceries. You haven’t been feeling well and have been meaning to visit the doctor. You put off buying the textbooks you need for class, but you can’t make it through your next test without them. On top of all of that, your bank account is looking low after traveling last-minute for a family emergency.

Which of these worries do you pay for?

The Student Impact Fund was designed for dilemmas like this. In partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, the SDSU Foundation created the Student Impact Fund to help offset the many difficulties Jackrabbits may face when pursuing a higher education. Students often juggle financial constraints like the ones we described on a daily basis, and the fund is here to provide resources for unexpected or emergency expenses. Qualifying situations might include medical bills, food insecurity, the cost of a sudden car repair, and unanticipated travel costs.

In addition to the usual challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted even more roadblocks that life could throw at our Jackrabbits, including decreases in income, loss of employment, and health crises. In the face of any of these setbacks, students are often forced to consider dropping out or taking time away from school. That’s where the Student Impact Fund comes in.

By helping students account for the unexpected, we prioritize their wellbeing, inside the classroom and out. Together, we can ease the financial burden for Jackrabbits and empower them to focus on school, remain in college, and pursue the bold future they’ve always dreamed of. While no one can predict life’s ups and downs, our students can build what comes next knowing the yellow and blue community always has their backs.
